Klaipeda Port has announced a tender for the construction of an offshore wind marshalling harbour. This initiative aims to support the development of two Lithuanian wind farms and other projects in the Baltic Sea.
The tender encompasses reconstruction works on quays and dredging for the first stage of development. Specifically, the quays of the Smeltė peninsula will undergo reconstruction and adaptation to facilitate the handling, assembly, and storage of wind turbines. The designated area for installation infrastructure spans 21 hectares, with the newly reconstructed quays measuring approximately 346 meters in length (in a continuous line). The depth near the quays will be 12 meters.
In May 2022, an investment agreement was formalised between the Klaipėda State Seaport Authority and Klaipėda Stevedoring Company KLASCO to facilitate the development of port infrastructure necessary for the planned offshore wind farm projects. The design project for the quay reconstruction is already complete, laying the groundwork for further progress in this undertaking.
