The Netherlands has opened the tender for the development of two offshore wind farms, with a capacity of 2GW each, in the IJmuiden Ver wind energy area in the North Sea.
The tender for the Alpha and Beta areas is issued by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate. The total capacity for the IJmuiden Ver wind energy area is 6GW and a third project (Gamma) is expected to be tendered in 2025. The wind energy area is 62 km off the west coast of the Netherlands. The first two areas are expected to be operational in 2029 and 2030, respectively. Grid operator TenneT will install three platforms with three grid connections in the area. TenneT's platforms will all have a 2 GW direct current connection to a land station. The application deadline is Thursday, March 28, 2024.
