AES Corp. said it has expanded its wind generation business in the United States through the acquisition of two wind farm projects from GE Energy Financial Services.
The two wind farms, located in Minnesota and Iowa, have a 186MW generation capacity. AES plans to triple its wind capacity in the next four years by adding about 2,100MW of new wind generation capacity worldwide by 2011. The Arlington, Virginia-based company has targeted about US$2.5 billion toward growing its alternative energy portfolio over the next four years. The company said it would continue to pursue acquisitions internationally to add wind energy capacity.
