The European Commission has approved a €10.82 billion package of French state subsidies to support offshore wind energy projects. The granted assistance will help with the development and operation of two offshore wind farms in France.
This financial assistance will help to establish a wind farm in the South Atlantic zone and another in the Centre Manche 2 zone of Normandy. The South Atlantic wind farm will have a capacity of between 1 and 1.2 GW, while the Normandy wind farm will have a capacity of 1.4 to 1.6 GW. The financial assistance will be delivered through a monthly variable premium based on a two-way contract for difference approach. The beneficiary selection process will be competitive, with one successful candidate for each offshore zone.
