German Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, Robert Habeck, met with representatives of European wind turbine manufacturers and suppliers at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK). The focus was on topics such as (cyber)security, fair competition conditions, reducing dependencies, and financing in the wind industry.
Together, they agreed on a five-point Action Plan for the growth and value creation of the domestic wind industry. The representatives of the wind industry reaffirmed their willingness and ability to meet the domestic demand for wind energy systems in the medium and long term, provided there is reliable market volume. Specifically, measures were agreed upon across five key areas:
- Increasing (cyber)security of wind energy systems
- Ensuring fair international competition conditions
- Reducing dependencies on critical components, such as permanent magnets
- Securing financing for ramping up production
- Reviewing public financing in cases of market distortions and adjusting it if necessary
The five-point Action Plan aims to help preserve and expand the strengths of the European wind industry and domestic value creation, while ensuring a level playing field. The next meeting is scheduled for early 2025 to report on the implementation.
