The German Bundesnetzagentur has announced the results of the second auction for onshore wind energy that closed for bids on 1 August 2017. The second auction for onshore wind energy was also marked by a high level of competition.

In the latest auction 67 bids comprising a total volume of 1,013MW have been accepted. The auction was significantly oversubscribed, with 281 bids totalling 2,927MW being submitted. The average price of the successful bids is € 4.28 cents per kilowatt hour (ct/kWh), and the highest price accepted was € 4.29 ct/kWh. A high proportion of the bids accepted in the latest auction are for projects based in eastern Germany. With 84% of all the bids submitted, the citizens' energy companies again showed a strong presence in the auction. As a result, 90% of all the successful bids (ie 60 bids), corresponding to 95% of the total volume of the bids accepted, were from citizens' energy companies.
