Global investment in the low-carbon energy transition reached a record $2.1 trillion in 2024, an 11% increase from the previous year, according to BloombergNEF’s Energy Transition Investment Trends 2025 report. Renewable energy investment rose by 8% to $728 billion, covering wind, solar, biofuels, biomass, marine, geothermal, and small hydro projects.
Electrified transport remained the largest sector, growing by 18% to $757 billion. Investment in power grids increased by 9% to $390 billion, while energy storage investment also reached a new high. Established technologies—including renewables, storage, electric vehicles, and power grids—accounted for $1.93 trillion, growing by 14.7%.
China led global investment with $818 billion, up 20% from 2023. The United States remained stagnant at $338 billion, while the European Union saw a 3% decline to $381 billion. The UK experienced a sharper drop, down 10% to $65.3 billion. In contrast, India and Canada recorded growth of 13% and 19%, respectively.
