The New Zealand Wind Energy Association has welcomed the New Zealand Government’s Energy Strategy announcement, as it confirms the target of 90% renewable electricity by 2025.
With limited extra hydro capacity and coal fired generation due to be phased out, wind power could generate 20% of New Zealand’s electricity by 2025, up from 4% today. That means growing from 615MW capacity to around 3,000MW.
