Oceantic Network has released its U.S. Offshore Wind Market Report for the third quarter of 2024. The report details important developments that affected the U.S. offshore wind industry during this period.
The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) has approved ten offshore wind projects totalling 15 GW, which includes the recent approvals for Atlantic Shores South and US Wind’s Maryland Offshore Wind Project. Massachusetts and Rhode Island have awarded provisional offtake agreements for a total of 2,878 MW of capacity across three projects. In addition, California and Delaware have approved their first offshore wind procurement targets, which set the stage for future state-driven offtake rounds.
The third quarter of 2024 saw the launch of four new crew transfer vessels (CTVs) for the offshore wind industry, bringing the total number of newbuild CTVs launched in 2024 to ten. Furthermore, between July and September, there was a total investment of $2.1 billion in the U.S. offshore wind market, covering areas such as transmission, port and supply chain development, as well as research and vessels.
