The U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations (OCED) has issued a Notice of Intent (NOI) for up to $400 million to support innovative, community-focused clean energy solutions in rural and remote areas across the USA.
The funding aims to demonstrate technologies that deliver clean, resilient, reliable, and affordable power, while promoting local energy independence and economic development.
Eligible projects must address at least one of the following: improving the cost-effectiveness of energy generation, transmission, or distribution systems; siting or upgrading transmission and distribution lines; reducing greenhouse gas emissions from energy generation; providing or modernizing electric generation facilities; developing microgrids; or increasing energy efficiency.
OCED plans to fund between 16 and 69 projects, offering grants ranging from $2 million to $50 million each, with a required non-federal cost share of 5–50% per project. The DOE expects to release a Notice of Funding Opportunity in autumn 2024.
