Romania’s Energy Minister, Sebastian Burduja, has announced plans to significantly boost the country's wind energy capacity. Currently, Romania has 3 GW of onshore wind installed, accounting for 16% of its electricity mix.
The goal is to increase wind energy's share to 36% by 2030. The country is set to launch its first onshore wind auction in November, offering 1.5 GW of new capacity with two-sided contracts for difference (CfDs) supported by EU funding and a price ceiling of €82/MWh. A second auction is planned for 2025.
Romania is also focusing on offshore wind development. According to the Offshore Wind Energy Law enacted in April this year, the goal is to build the first offshore wind farm in the Black Sea by 2032. The auction process for this offshore project is scheduled for next year.
