New figures published by the UK Government’s Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy show that Scotland continues to lead the way in renewables, delivering the equivalent of 54% of Scotland’s gross electricity consumption in 2016. Scotland generated approximately 24% of total UK renewable electricity in 2016. Total energy consumption in 2015 was 15.4% lower than in 2005-2007, exceeding the Scottish Government’s 12% energy consumption reduction target for 2020. And 17.8% of total Scottish energy consumption came from renewable sources, which is an increase of 2.6 percentage points from 2014.
