On Jan. 12, 2022, Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland announced that BOEM will hold a wind energy auction for more than 488,000 acres in the New York Bight.
This will be the first offshore wind energy auction under the Biden-Harris Administration. The auction began at 9:00 a.m. (EST) on Feb. 23, 2022, and will allow offshore wind developers to bid on six lease areas – the most areas ever offered in a single auction – as described in BOEM’s Final Sale Notice. BOEM will be providing round-by-round updates on this online auction throughout the day. Shortly after the auction ends, the Department of the Interior will announce the provisional winners for each of the lease areas. BOEM took a recess last night (2/23 EST) and will resume (2/24) at 9 am EST. Preliminary results and updates of the auction can be found here.
