Hitachi Energy’s transformer factory in Zhongshan, China, has delivered the company’s first 66 kV WindSTAR transformer using natural ester as insulation fluid for a pilot project in Chinese waters.
The use of biodegradable fluids as an insulation medium enhances safety and reduces environmental impact in the event of leakage, thereby reducing the carbon footprint of the transformer. Specifically, the insulating fluid in this transformer is a plant-based natural ester with nearly 100 per cent biodegradability, representing a significant improvement.
