The Liebherr LTR 11200 crawler crane was developed primarily for operations involving onshore wind farms. Danish shipowner DBB Jack-Up Services A/S contacted Liebherr for a LTR 11200 crane to be mounted on its self-propelled jack-up barge WIND.
The connection between the slewing ring and the barge is provided by means of a strong, stable tube element, which is integrated into the structure of the ship. The WIND is the first ship to have a permanently mounted telescopic crane on board. The main reasons for DBB Jack-up Services A/S choosing for a telescopic crane were the smaller space requirements in comparison with a lattice boom crane and the lower centre of gravity of the crane thanks to the fact that the boom can be completely retracted. With this crane it is possible to achieve a substantial hook height with the onboard crane even with a relatively small barge. The LTR 11200 has been given a number of technical modifications for operation on the high seas.
