Siemens adds a new low noise turbine, the SWT-3.3-130LN to its portfolio. The new model operates at a reduced rotor speed and includes aerodynamic add-ons at the rotor blades. With this equipment it can be operated at a noise level of 104.9 decibels.
Responsible for the characteristic noise of a wind turbine is primarily the fast air stream at the tips of the rotor. So efficiency in noise mitigation starts with a reduced rotor speed. With the SWT-3.3-130LN Siemens has enhanced the permanent magnet generator’s torque compared to the classic version. This results in a high performance at low rotor speed so that the maximum rating of 3.3MW is reached at fewer revolutions per minute with a noise emission reduced by approximately 2 decibel. The new machine will be available in early 2017.
