The Brazilian construction company and tower supplier Dois A Tower System (DTS), Advanced Tower Systems (ATS) and LafargeHolcim SA signed a memorandum of understanding to launch a new technology for manufacturing wind towers for the Brazilian market.
Ductal, a product of LafargeHolcim, is a material that combines a matrix of minerals with fibres of metal or polymers, resulting in a concrete with ultra-high performance (UHPC). Ductal technology will enable the construction of wind turbine towers of ultra high performance concrete (UHPC), with up to 300% of the compressive strength of normal precast concrete, resulting in reduction of approximately 50% by weight of precast concrete modules. The weight reduction and increased compressive strength will allow to reach greater heights with the use of cranes already available at the Brazilian market.
