The new Siemens offshore flagship wind turbine of the type SWT-7.0-154 has now been installed as a prototype. The planned field testing of the 7MW offshore machine in Østerild, Denmark, mainly focusses on the upgraded generator and the enhanced electrical system.
The majority of other components are equal to the technology of the Siemens SWT-6.0-154 –including the rotor with its diameter of 154 meters. The SWT-7.0-154 model yields nearly 10 per cent more power than its predecessor at comparable operational costs. DNV GL has awarded Siemens Wind Power with offshore prototype certification for this new offshore wind turbine. The prototype certificate confirms the compliance of the wind turbine design with the mandatory prototype requirements of the IEC 61400-22 standard and the Danish Executive Order (DEO). Being granted Prototype Certification confirms all relevant safety features on the turbine and allows installation of the prototype, to demonstrate how it performs. DNV GL has also been contracted to carry out the Type Certification of the SWT-7.0-154 offshore turbine and is currently involved in the design evaluation process.
