Van Oord’s cable-laying vessel Nexus has been upgraded with selective catalytic reduction (SCR) technology. Five SCR units, one for each engine, have been installed to minimise nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions.
The system uses a catalyst that reacts with injected urea to remove NOx from exhaust gases, ensuring compliance with International Maritime Organization (IMO) Tier III regulations. Damen Shipyards Group, the vessel’s original builder, carried out the retrofit.
