A2SEA has successfully installed the last of 36 Vestas V90 offshore wind turbines at Egmond aan Zee, off the coast of the Netherlands.
The project, which is being constructed by a Consortium of the Dutch offshore contractor Ballast Nedam and the Danish wind turbine manufacturer Vestas for the owners Shell WindEnergy and the Dutch utility Nuon, is the latest large scale offshore wind farm to be developed in Europe and the first in Dutch waters. Following the finalisation of cable installation the project will enter the commissioning phase and is due to be completed end 2006. A2SEA’s construction work was carried out by the M/V SEA ENERGY, one of two leg suspended crane vessels operated by the company. The sister vessel M/V SEA POWER was also employed on the project transporting the giant wind turbine components from Denmark to the local logistics base in IJmuiden. Work on the turbine construction commenced at the start of June and operations have proceeded very smoothly over the summer.
