Availon GmbH has been awarded an order for supplying and installion of grid coupling contactors as an upgrade for 81xGE 1.5 Wind Turbine Generator Systems (WTGs). A total of 14 operating companies commissioned Deutsche Immobilien-Leasing GmbH (DIL) as their agent to sign a respective framework agreement with Availon.
The Grid Coupling Contactor (GCC) upgrade developed by Availon has been designed for many circuit arrangements and takes over the regular switching operations of the main switch of a WTG. The main switch consequently only serves as an overvoltage protection and is thus constantly relieved. As by installing a grid coupling contactor the wear of the main switch is reduced, full maintenance or replacement of the main switch is no longer required. The additional switching component also reduces the risk of expensive damage to the frequency converter, if the main switch does not cut out correctly.
