The Crown Estate has granted a lease to Statoil for the construction of the Hywind Scotland pilot floating offshore wind farm, off the coast of Peterhead.
Onshore work on Hywind will start later this year with turbines to be anchored in 2017 with first power expected in 2018. The project consists of five Siemens 6MW turbines which will have a total height of approximately 170 metres, with turbine blades of 77 metres. The array will cover an area of about 4.2km².
