DONG Energy has decided to construct the offshore wind farm Burbo Bank Extension located 8 kilometres off the UK coast in Liverpool Bay.
Burbo Bank Extension will consist of 32 MHI Vestas Offshore Wind V164-8.0MW wind turbines with a total capacity of 258MW and is expected to be commissioned in 2017. The contract with MHI Vestas Offshore Wind covers supply, installation and commissioning of the wind turbines, as well as a five year full-scope service contract. Burbo Bank Extension is the first of three projects for which DONG Energy was awarded Final Investment Decision Enabling contracts (Contract for Difference) by the UK Government in April 2014. With the Contract for Difference, DONG Energy will receive a fixed price per MWh of electricity produced for the first 15 years of operation following which DONG Energy will receive the market price.
