The French Minister for Ecology, Sustainable Development and Energy (Ségolène Royal), has designated four areas for the development of pilot farms for floating wind turbines in three different regions: Brittany, Languedoc-Roussillon and Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur.
These four areas are considered the most favourable in terms of technical requirements and acceptability. They are located off the coast of l’île de Groi, des étangs de Leucate, La commune de Gruissan and Faraman lighthouse. A call for floating wind farms pilot projects will now be launched for these four areas and published before the end of July. Funded by the future investment program (PIA) it will help to launch a promising new industrial sector for France.
