Petrobras (Brazil) and Equinor (Norway) have teamed up to evaluate studies for developing an offshore wind project in Brazil. The wind farm called, Aracatu project, will be located 20 kilometres off the Brazilian coast in the Campos basin.
Aracatu has been divided into two phases — each consisting of 160 turbines of 12 to 16 megawatts each on monopile foundations in water depths ranging from 15 to 35 metres. The total area of the proposed project is 1173 square kilometres. Equinor already started the licensing process for the Aracatu wind farm nearly two years ago with the objective to build a single wind farm with up to 4.66GW of installed capacity.
