REpower Systems AG is now to supply six – instead of the originally planned four - wind turbines for the first offshore wind farm in the German North Sea.
In a press conference 2nd October in Berlin, the German Environment Minister Sigmar Gabriel announced the signing of the agreement “Borkum West” which is scheduled to be erected in 2008. The wind farm has a total of 12 wind turbines of the 5MW class. For research and development in the offshore test area located 45 kilometres off the island of Borkum, the German Environment Ministry promised subsidies of € 50 million over five years, subject to the approval of the EU Commission. REpower is a member of the Offshore Wind Energy Foundation, which acquired the rights to “Borkum West” last year.
