Taiwan’s first commercial-scale offshore wind farm, Formosa 1, has been inaugurated by Taiwan’s President Tsai Ing-wen. Once Formosa 1 comes fully online at the end of November, its 22 turbines will have an installed capacity of 128MW, enough electricity to cover the annual needs of 128,000 households.
Formosa 1 is a joint development by JERA Energy Taiwan, Swancor Holding, Macquarie Group and Orsted. Construction of the facility, which started in 2013, was completed last month.
