Together with municipal utility companies, the Trianel Group is expanding its power generation portfolio with electricity generated from wind energy.
Under the auspices of the Trianel European Energy Trading GmbH, around 40 municipal utility companies are involved in the development of the Borkum-West II offshore wind farm, which was designed by PROKON Nord Energiesysteme GmbH in Leer, Germany. The wind farm is located around 45 km north of the island of Borkum in the North Sea and will begin operation in 2010. It will comprise 80 wind turbines, each with an output of 5MW. The electricity generated will be fed by undersea cable via the island of Norderney into the high-voltage grid belonging to E.ON Netz GmbH. Trianel and the municipal utility companies involved are investing a total of around € 1 billion.
