Focus on Storage, Smart Energy Solutions and Component Technology Advances
WindEnergy Hamburg will be held from 27 to 30 September. Once again it will be the global business platform for companies in the wind industry, with more than 1,200 exhibitors from over 30 nations presenting their latest products and services for onshore and offshore in a total of nine exhibition halls.
The event will feature national pavilions presenting the wind companies of the respective countries – a total of 18 pavilions are currently registered. The largest country presentation, filling a whole exhibition hall, is from Denmark, with 90 exhibitors. Other pavilions are from European countries such as Belgium, the Netherlands, the UK and Turkey. And the Basque Country makes its presentation in its own pavilion with companies from the offshore sector. The wind energy markets in North and South America will be present with joint pavilions from Argentina, the USA and Canada. Asia is there too, with a national pavilion from China.
A top issue on this year’s agenda will be technologies for storing excess wind energy. Exhibitors relevant for this segment will be marked ‘Storage Tour’ throughout the exhibition halls so visitors with a specific interest in this field will be able to locate these companies easily.
Furthermore, a wide range of exhibitors will inform trade visitors about specific smart energy solutions, two-way smart grid design and various options for energy storage. Specific topic areas are ‘power-to-gas’, battery systems, virtual power plant (VPP) concepts, grid stability enhancement, smart (electric) mobility and off-grid systems. Several smart energy solutions are already commercially available, and others are being added continuously.
The 7–8MW class is rapidly becoming the standard size for offshore wind, and for large-scale onshore a new 3.6–5MW ‘class’ is emerging. For these installations as well as smaller-size volume turbines matching component solutions are required. Many exhibitors will showcase a large range of components and accessories for these turbines. One comprehensive product category is mechanical, mechanical-electric, mechanical-hydraulic and electronic components, especially concentrated in Halls 5 and 6. Many suppliers will explain about structural components like hub and main carrier castings, gearboxes up to 8MW, main shafts, pitch and yaw bearings and motors, and hydraulic cylinders and accumulators. The main focus in Hall B5 is on gearboxes and other mechanical components.
The WindEurope Summit will be held in parallel with WindEnergy Hamburg for the first time, at CCH - Congress Centre Hamburg, which is located right next to the Hamburg Fair site.
