Energy generator and retailer Contact Energy (New Zealand) has not previously been keen to embrace wind power technology, but that is about to change under the leadership of new boss David Baldwin.
Contact has signed an agreement with the renewable energy group at the Australian arm of investment bank Investec, with the aim of developing a number of wind generation options, including the possibility buying into projects already underway. Baldwin says part of dealing with the post Maui environment includes the need to diversify its generation portfolio. He says the company is working toward trying to get some certainty around the government's climate change policy before committing to longer term investment.
