Andrew Hall has joined GreenSpur Renewables as Chairman as the company announces plans to unveil a >10MW generator design in early 2019. GreenSpur Renewables has developed a ferrite-based Direct Drive Permanent Magnet Generator (DD-PMG) capable of reliable multi-MW generation.
It is an innovation that replaces scarce and expensive rare earth magnets with cheap and abundant ferrite magnets. The company is scheduled to test a 250kW stage of a 1MW generator at the ORE Catapult in early 2019. GreenSpur is also working with Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG) part of the University of Warwick, to model a >10MW design suitable for the next generation of offshore turbines.
