Aloys Wobben, the founder of Enercon passed away August 3 after a long illness,. Aloys Wobben was 69 years old. Founded by Wobben in 1984, Enercon focuses on manufacturing onshore wind turbines.
In 1992 Enercon developed its first gearless wind turbine and since then gearless/direct drive wind turbine became a trademark for the manufacturer. For health reasons, Wobben stepped back from active business life in 2012 and trabsfered his shares to the to the Aloys Wobben Foundation, which is now the sole shareholder of the company.
