KK Group has announced the acquisition of PowerCon, a Danish company specialising in power conversion technology for the maritime, wind and battery energy storage sectors. PowerCon’s shore power systems enable vessels to connect to electrical grids and shut down diesel engines while berthed in ports.
PowerCon originated in the wind sector, where it developed modular converter solutions and dedicated testing capabilities. In recent years, the company has expanded into shore power and the growing battery energy storage system market.
Through the acquisition, KK Group aims to combine expertise in power conversion for the wind industry and broaden its offering across wind and energy storage through a larger, shared customer base. PowerCon will become part of KK Group while continuing to operate as a separate entity, with both companies assessing further collaboration opportunities.
The existing owners and leadership team of PowerCon will retain a 30% minority stake and continue to play an active role in the business. Following completion, more than 200 employees will join KK Group, increasing its workforce to around 4,000. The transaction is expected to close in the second quarter of 2026, subject to regulatory approval.
