TÜV Rheinland has been audited and accredited as a certification body by the International Electrotechnical Committee Conformity Assessment System for Renewable Energy (IECRE). With this accreditation the company has been enabled to issue IECRE certificates for wind turbines as an independent testing organisation.
The IECRE currently consists of 16 national committees from various countries. In October 2016, the organisation launched a system for certification of renewable energy power plants. This system will close existing gaps in the fields of wind power, photovoltaics and marine energy and harmonise test procedures at a global level. It is designed to achieve common and mutual recognition of test services among the accredited certification bodies and testing labs and to facilitate an international systems trade that maintains the necessary safety level. It also aims to ensure that all suppliers, subcontractors and end consumers have a shared understanding of the elements, modules, reports, statements and certificates involved in this certification processes.
