US Wind has withdrawn its plans to develop a manufacturing facility for offshore wind turbine components at Sparrows Point in Baltimore County, Maryland, USA.  US Wind had planned to manufacture steel components for offshore wind turbines at Tradepoint Atlantic, the industrial site at Sparrows Point. The facility was intended to support the offshore wind industry and create jobs in the region.

The change comes as US Wind faces delays to its planned offshore wind project off the coast of Ocean City, Maryland, amid legal disputes and uncertainty surrounding federal approvals. The company said the manufacturing plans were intended to bring jobs to Sparrows Point in the near term while development of its offshore wind project remained delayed.

The site will be taken over by Anduril Industries, which plans to invest US$3.7 billion in a new shipbuilding facility expected to create around 3,100 permanent jobs.
