At the North Seas Energy Cooperation (NSEC) ministerial meeting in Odense, Denmark, European and national politicians, along with industry representatives, reaffirmed the North Seas' strategic role as Europe’s future renewable energy powerhouse.
In a joint NSEC declaration, the energy ministers of Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, and Norway identified six key areas for collaboration. The group highlighted the following opportunities and challenges for the new European Commission to address:
- Ensuring an integrated and well-functioning energy market across Europe
- Establishing a framework for shared planning, benefits, and costs
- Accelerating and de-risking renewable energy and infrastructure projects
- Enhancing European competitiveness and transparency in the value chain
- Exploring options to develop offshore renewable hydrogen in the North Seas
- Facilitating cooperation across the North Seas with all partners, including the UK
The NSEC members encourage the Commission to take actions based on these recommendations and to present them at the upcoming North Sea Summit in 2025.
