The U.S. Department of Energy’s Wind Energy Technologies Office (WETO) announced it intends to issue a Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) entitled “Offshore Wind National and Regional Research and Development.”
This opportunity will fund $48 million of projects that address several major areas of need for offshore wind, including accelerating research and development of offshore wind platforms, expanding the reach of the domestic supply chain, improving offshore wildlife protection through new monitoring technologies, and advancing U.S. academic leadership in floating offshore wind. The funding focuses on the following topics:
- Floating offshore wind platform research and development (US$ 20 million)
- Innovation for fixed-bottom offshore wind foundation types and supporting infrastructure (US$ 7,5 million)
- Technology advancement for bird and bat research offshore (US$ 8 million)
- Development of a manufacturing and supply chain offshore wind consortium in Great Lakes region (US$ 5 million)
- Floating wind centre of excellence (US$ 3,5 million)
- Protecting the future offshore wind fleet against lightning (US$ 4 million)
