Victoria will launch its first offshore wind auction in August 2026, with an initial capacity of 2 GW. The Request for Tender will mark a key step in establishing the state’s offshore wind industry. The Electricity Services Entry Mechanism (ESEM), endorsed in principle by Australia’s Energy Ministers in December, provides a framework for new renewable energy projects, including offshore wind, to help Victoria meet its renewable energy targets.
The Victorian Government is working with industry and the Commonwealth to finalise the design of both the ESEM and the auction process, aiming to ensure a competitive and successful outcome for developers and investors.
