Epsilon Cable has launched Conductor Advisor, a free online tool that helps power line engineers and product managers identify and compare composite-core conductors based on project requirements. The tool allows users to explore suitable high-voltage carbon-reinforced composite (HVCRC) conductor configurations, compare their technical characteristics and narrow down the available options.
Selecting conductors for overhead power lines typically involves reviewing technical datasheets and checking whether different configurations meet project requirements. For reconductoring projects, engineers must also consider the characteristics of the existing conductor and the constraints of the infrastructure.
Conductor Advisor provides an alternative to searching through product catalogues. Users enter their project requirements, and the application identifies and ranks suitable conductor options. These can be assessed against objectives such as increasing line ampacity, reducing electrical losses or limiting mechanical loads on supporting structures.
Users begin by defining the existing line and the requirements for the proposed conductor. They can select a reference conductor from a database containing more than 1,260 entries, including aluminium conductor steel-reinforced (ACSR), all-aluminium conductor (AAC), all-aluminium alloy conductor (AAAC) and aluminium conductor alloy-reinforced (ACAR) types.
The required characteristics of replacement conductors can then be specified, including diameter, linear weight, mechanical strength and electrical resistance.
The application estimates the ampacity of candidate conductors under the selected operating conditions, taking into account ambient temperature, wind conditions and solar radiation.
Based on these requirements and calculations, the tool identifies suitable configurations from Epsilon Cable’s HVCRC product range. Its database includes more than 110 conductor references across three product families: HVCRC, HVCRC LITE AL0 and HVCRC LITE AL1.
Results are presented in a ranked table, allowing users to compare electrical and mechanical characteristics, review technical datasheets and download a datasheet tailored to their selected configuration. The results provide a starting point for evaluating potential solutions before discussing project-specific requirements with Epsilon Cable’s engineering team.
