Gamesa has commissioned its first 60Hz G114-2.0 MW wind turbine prototype in the United States, in Texas, USA.
The installation of the prototype was completed mid-March at the Reese Technology Center in Lubbock, triggering the start of the intensive process of validating and certifying the new turbine. The company expects to obtain type certification before the end of 2014. With a rotor spanning 114 metres, the turbine’s swept area is 38% greater than that of the G97-2.0 MW, and produces 20% more energy a year. In the US, Gamesa has a framework agreement with EDP Renewables for the supply of up to 450 MW through 2016.
