AkzoNobel’s protective coatings brand, International, has introduced Relest Wind EP Process Coat, a fast-drying epoxy in-mould gelcoat for wind blade manufacturing. The product is aimed at manufacturers using in-mould gelcoats and is part of the Relest blade protection range. It will be available in Europe and China.
The coating is solvent-free, epoxy-based and amine-cured, eliminating the use of isocyanates and simplifying mixing. It is designed to be easy to apply, with a lower tendency for pin-holing, potentially reducing the need for additional finishing work.
The product can be applied at higher mould temperatures (up to 50°C), which International estimates may support faster production cycle times. In typical production scenarios, the coating could reduce total application time from around 8–10 hours for a 200-micron layer over 150 m², depending on ambient conditions.
Relest Wind EP Process Coat has been validated through laboratory testing and customer field trials.
