Monobase Wind has announced that the Mspar floating offshore wind turbine foundation, developed in partnership with Daewoo Engineering & Construction (Daewoo E&C), has received an Approval in Principle (AIP) certificate from Det Norske Veritas (DNV). The collaboration between Monobase Wind and Daewoo E&C began in 2021, focusing on developing technology for floating offshore wind turbine foundations.
In March 2022, the two companies completed the conceptual design, model tests at the Oceanide facilities in France, and the basic design for their MSPAR foundation. The MSPAR foundation, a hybrid of semi-submersible and SPAR foundation designs, is engineered for full assembly at the quayside and is capable of supporting 15-25 MW offshore wind turbines in water depths exceeding 80 metres. The foundation has been tested to withstand wind speeds up to 61 metres per second and wave heights of 22 metres. The companies are now working to develop a full-scale demonstration of the MSPAR foundation, scheduled for 2026/2027.
