Northern Offshore Services (N-O-S) has unveiled its new I-Class Crew Transfer Vessel (CTV), which is the first to be powered by the commercial application of Volvo Penta’s IPS Professional Platform.
This platform aims to enhance efficiency, manoeuvrability, and versatility, enabling the I-Class vessel to evolve throughout its lifecycle. The vessel can adapt to hybrid, fully electric, and alternative fuel propulsion systems without the need for a rebuild, thanks to propulsion conversions.
Equipped with a remote diagnostics package, the vessel will collect over 6,000 hours of operational data, contributing to the optimisation and future development of Volvo Penta’s propulsion designs. The system’s twin forward-facing counter-rotating propellers generate powerful thrust and reduce torque, providing precise control in the challenging conditions typically found at offshore wind farms. The I-Class vessel began operations at a UK wind farm on September 1, 2024.
