Gamesa Corporación Tecnológica presented the first prototype of the Gamesa G10x - 4.5 MW product platform at the Cabezo Negro R&D wind farm located in the Jaulín local authority in the Spanish province of Saragossa.
Some of the technological innovations that will subsequently be incorporated into the mass produced version are being tested on the prototype presented. The prototype has already fed its first kilowatts of energy into the grid and has recently generated 50 MWe in a day. Its modular design is entirely designed by Gamesa and similar kind of transport and installation equipment can be used as for smaller wind turbines. The Gamesa G10X - 4.5MW wind turbine has a rotor diameter of 128 meters and blades measuring more than 60 meters long. The tower has a height of 120 meters and is made of concrete and steel.
