Acciona Energy North America celebrated the opening of its 123MW Red Hills Wind Farm, located in Roger Mills and Custer counties, near Elk City, Oklahoma USA.
This is the first renewable energy project that Acciona has developed
and built in the state of Oklahoma. 82 Acciona 1.5MW wind turbines are
used for the Red Hills Wind Farm. The energy generated at the Red Hills
Wind Farm is sold to Western Farmers Electric Cooperative (WFEC) in a
20 year power purchase agreement (PPA). Construction of the project
began in May 2008 and was installed by the end of that year. It was
managed by Mortenson Construction with turbine erection being managed
by White Construction. The Red Hills Wind Farm created 15 new full-time
local jobs and more than 200 people were employed during the
construction phase.
