A consortium of Bladt Industries and Semco Maritime has been awarded a turnkey contract for the Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind (CVOW) project by Dominion Energy Virginia.
The contract comprises three 880MW offshore substations, which will be established in 2021-2025 and commissioned in 2026. The scope of work on the Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind project includes design, engineering, procurement, manufacturing and installation. Bladt Industries is responsible for design, procurement and manufacturing of steel structures and jacket foundations, while design, procurement and installation of electrical equipment, emergency systems and inter-array cables will be managed by Semco Maritime.
Bladt Industries will also supply 176 transition pieces to the CVOW project. Production starts in March 2023 at Bladt Industries site in Aalborg, Denmark. The last load out is scheduled for July 2025. The transition pieces are up to 30 meters high and close to 8 meters in diameter. Each element weighs 540 to 570 tons, including secondary steel.
The Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind project will be established 40 kilometers off Virginia Beach and have a capacity of2.6GW.
