The 913 MW Borkum Riffgrund 3 offshore wind farm, jointly owned by Ørsted and Nuveen Infrastructure, has entered commercial operation. The project is supported by long-term corporate power purchase agreements signed by Ørsted with industrial and technology companies.
The agreements cover a total of 786 MW, including 350 MW with Amazon, 186 MW with BASF, 100 MW with Covestro, 100 MW with Energie-Handels-Gesellschaft/REWE Group and 50 MW with Google. The contracts have terms of between 10 and 25 years.
Located about 72 km off the German North Sea coast, Borkum Riffgrund 3 covers approximately 75 km². The wind farm comprises 83 turbines, each rated at 11 MW. Operations and maintenance are carried out from Norden-Norddeich and Emden.
