Cape Holland has secured a contract from Van Oord to deliver a Cape Vibro Lifting Technology (VLT)-640 Quad spread. The Cape Vibro Lifting Technology will be used to reduce piling noise compared to traditional hammer installations during the construction of the Ecowende offshore wind farm.
The monopiles, with a diameter up to 9.3 metres and weighing nearly 1,500 tonnes, will be driven with the Cape VLT to final penetration where possible or finished using an impact hammer. Van Oord’s new installation vessel Boreas will use its 3,000-tonne crane to install the monopiles. The Ecowende wind farm, a joint venture between Shell, Eneco, and Chubu, will be located about 53 kilometres off the Dutch coast, near IJmuiden, and will have an installed capacity of approximately 760 MW. The plan is to put the wind farm into operation in 2026.
