Construction of the jacket for IJmuiden Ver Gamma has started at Heerema Fabrication Group’s yard in Vlissingen with the ceremonial first steel cut. It is the second substructure for TenneT’s new generation of 2 GW offshore converter platforms to be built at the yard. For the offshore converter platforms for IJmuiden Ver Beta, IJmuiden Ver Gamma and Nederwiek 2, TenneT is working with main contractor GE Vernova–Seatrium. The consortium has commissioned Heerema Fabrication Group to build the three jackets.
The first steel cut marks the start of steel fabrication for the jacket. Over the next two years, large steel sections will be assembled, welded and coated for protection. The sections will then be joined to form the complete substructure supporting the IJmuiden Ver Gamma offshore converter platform. The sail-out of the IJmuiden Ver Gamma jacket is scheduled for summer 2028. The structure will be loaded onto a barge and transported to its offshore location, approximately 80 kilometres off the coast of IJmuiden. There, it will be installed on the seabed and anchored.
