The Crown Estate will relaunch the tender for the 1.5 GW Morgan offshore wind site in the Irish Sea after the project was returned by a joint venture between EnBW and JERA Nex bp. The site was originally secured during the United Kingdom Offshore Wind Leasing Round 4 in 2021.
The lease was relinquished in January 2026 after the developers decided not to proceed with the project, returning the rights to the Crown Estate. The decision followed unfavourable market conditions, including the project’s failure to secure a Contract for Difference (CfD) and increased cost pressures. The Crown Estate plans to restart the allocation process next month, with a new competitive tender expected to result in the award of the site to a new developer by late 2026.
